Cullen Jones visited the Plainfield Area YMCA on February 20, 2010 and discussed how hard work, determination and belief in self enabled him to achieve his goals.
As a NJ native, he will shared his reflections of the Garden State and his journey to the Olympics. Mr Jones spoke about the Make-A-Splash Foundation, a swimming education program that teaches inner city youth how to swim.

CLUB RULES:
Swim at your pace
Swim using the stroke or strokes of your choice
Keep count of your own laps
Enjoy your swim
At the completion of the 50 miles, your name and the month you finished will be placed on the swim club plaque located outside of the Aquatics Office
To sign up, simply give your name and how many laps you completed to the lifeguard on duty!!
Remember:
2 lengths= 1 lap
22 lengths= 11 laps or 1/4 mile
44 lengths= 22 laps or 1/2 mile
88 lengths= 44 laps or 1 mile

Plainfield Area YMCA Lifeguard Training
June 19th, 20th, 26th & 27th from 8am-6pm
Pretest June 18th at 5pm
All classes are held at the Plainfield Area YMCA and
Must attend all classes.
Must Register by June 15, 2010
(Ages 15 Plus)
Participants must pass the following prerequisite:
Complete 15 lengths of the pool
5 Lengths of Front Crawl Stroke
5 Lengths of Breast Stroke
5 Mix of Front Crawl Stroke and Breast Stroke
And a 10 pounds Brick Test.
Prepare for college and a career by developing leadership and communication skills
Be a hero by learning lifesaving skills such as first aid Water rescue and CPR/AED.
Have fun and earn money at a job you love.
These jobs are in high demand! Plus, American Red Cross certification is recognized nationwide so you can work anywhere in the U.S.

Swim Leaders Program
The S.P.L is for members or non-member ages 11 & 14 and is designed to teach the importance of personal safety and Survival skills in and around the aquatic environment.
Its include accident prevention, general aquatic information, personal aquatic safety information, basic survival skills and principles.
Students will begin learning the basic techniques and mechanics of swimming as well as how to demonstrate and teach each stroke to others.
During the session students will also be certified in First aid, CPR and Basic water Rescue.
This is a 16 hour program that is designed for older children with an interest in becoming lifeguards and/or swimming instructors to start aquatic careers. Students are required to attend all classroom and water sessions.
To take the course, candidates must meet the following prerequisites:
Be at least 11 years old
Be able to complete the following swimming test:
Swim 300 yards, including 50 yards each of front crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, inverted breaststroke (legs only), sidestroke left or sidestroke right
Tread water for two minutes
Perform head-first and feet-first surface dives
The cost:
Member: from ages 12 & 14yrs $125.00
Non-member: from ages 12 & 14yrs $150.00

Pre-Training for Lifeguard Course:
Anyone with little or no swim from ages 12yrs and older can take the opportunity to build endurance and learn efficient swimming techniques from a Pre-Training Course.
This is highly recommended for anyone taking any future Lifeguard Training Course.
Many participants fail the pre-test for the Course or didn’t learned or know how to swim.
DON’T BE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO FAIL AND LOSE THEIR MONEY.
This Session will help you improvement your swimming skills such as the front crawl stroke and breaststroke, and also learn about water safety
This session includes the 300yd swim, brick recovery, and basic water rescues.
To take the course, candidates must meet the following prerequisites:
Be at least 12 years old
Be able to complete the following swimming test:
Swim 1 lap in deep water with an identifiable front crawl /freestyle.
This is not a certifications class, and does not guarantee you will pass any Lifeguard course; but it will help you give you the opportunity to become one.
