Single Room Residence & Emergency Housing

The growth of railroads and centralization of commerce and industry in the early 1900s brought many rural young men who needed jobs to Plainfield. The Plainfield Area YMCA provided safe hotel like rooms with community bathrooms and organized social and recreational activities for these men who were far from home and family.

The Plainfield Area YMCA continues that tradition today. With 60 single rooms, the YMCA provides a safe place for men on a limited income.

Our Emergency Housing Program provides men, women, and families with the vital services to gain independence and achieve permanent housing. The program consists of 51 beds in a dormitory setting, case management  services and a meal every evening. Our organization accepts referrals from social services agencies as well as walk in clients. The YMCA has a hotline (908-756-6061) which provides that client with one night of emergency housing.

Our Housing Programs have a separate entrance for the safety and privacy of our residents. We are located 2 blocks from the train station and have a NJ transit bus stop in the front of our building.

For more information about either of our housing programs,

please contact Theresa McCoy, Director of Housing Services at 908-756-6060 ext #103.
